What is TENS?

TENS stands for transcutaneous (through the skin) electrical nerve stimulation and is a  treatment that uses  electrical currents to relieve pain and provide other therapeutic benefits. The PainPod medical devices send the gentle TENS frequencies from the unit through the electrode wires and into the treatment area. To ease pain or discomfort, the TENS frequencies send bio-electrical signals through the nervous system and block the pain receptors that alert your brain to discomfort.

TENS therapy works similarly to how painkillers work, except without the chemical properties or side effects of analgesics. Find out more about our technology by reading through the PainPod homepage here.

What is EMS or NMES?

Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) is often referred to as neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES). EMS frequencies are best used for muscle recovery and performance due to the involuntary muscle contractions they induce. This helps to stimulate the muscles so that your body can recover from injury and exercise more effectively. Find out more about recovery, performance and the PainPod on the homepage here.

How do I connect the circulation shoes to my PainPod device?

The circulation shoes come with their own special white electrode wires. Best practice is to connect one end of the circulation shoe wires to either port A or port B and then plug the prongs into the small holes visible on the side of the shoes. The opening where the prong fits can be hard to find. It's on the rim of the inside side of the leg. It is a small black hole.

I think my pads are irritating my skin. Am I doing something wrong?

Even though PainPod pads are made with anti-allergen gel, skin irritation can still occur in a small number of cases. If your skin is becoming irritated by the pads, there are a few different things you can do to stop it from recurring and even lengthen the life of your pads in the process:

If your pads are old, you may simply need to order some replacements but try the above first. If you have tried the above tips, ordered replacement pads and you are still experiencing skin irritation, we recommend considering the Conductor Therapy Belt as an alternative to pads. The belt does not use gel to stick to the skin but instead is sprayed with water or Perfect Conductor and then strapped tight to hold it in place.
