Brett began his rodeo journey in 2014 riding steers before moving on to novice bulls. He later made the switch to bareback horses — and he’s never looked back. Since then, he’s competed across Australia and in New Zealand. Originally from NSW, Brett now lives in WA and works in the livestock haulage industry.
My dad was a camp drafter when I was growing up. We lived on a farm for most of our life in Leeton then we moved north to Port Macquarie where I started riding steers then bulls. From then I moved down to the Hunter Valley for a few years working on horse studs and meat works and this is where I was when I started riding bareback horses. Then I moved south to Yass where I worked in saleyards and civil construction. I then moved to WA and worked on a cattle station for around 6 years. Now I drive a road train carting mainly cattle and grain.
My favourite things about bullfighting and bareback riding would be the adrenaline rush.
My biggest accomplishments would be qualifying for the ABCRA Finals 3 times and winning a buckle in NZ.
I envision myself in the next 5 years creating an opportunity to go to the states to either bullfight or ride bareback horses and to win an Australian title and a WA title.
No major setbacks physically but having my brother and sister pass away in the last few years has definitely been a mental setback.
The advice I give my younger self is to believe in myself and what I can do and don't pass up any opportunity no matter the cost.
A very close friend of mine got me into both - big shout outs to Brendon Crawley for believing in me and pushing me to be my best. He is also a part of the PainPod family.
Determination, hard work and training are the keys to success I believe and that goes for everything.
I have a very busy work roster so it's not everyday I get to train so when I get the chance I get in and do the work I feel is best for where I need to be.
I first became interested in the PainPod again through Brendon Crawley but didn't get the chance to try it out until I met Gavin and Stacey at the Perth 4x4 show.
I use PainPod everyday as a part of my recovery whether it be at home on the couch or if I have a break at work I'll use it then too.
