What’s TENS? Is PainPod a TENS machine?

TENS simply stands for transcutaneous (through the skin) electrical nerve stimulation and describes use of electric current to stimulate the nerves. TENS covers the entire range of currents passed through the skin for nerve excitation.  These could be medically beneficial like PainPod proprietary formulations or placebo.

The term TENS is often confused and used as a generic term for the type of pulses produced by all sorts of electrotherapy devices, in much the same way that we use “capsule’ or “pill” as general description for how we get medicines into the body system.  We know, for example,  that not all capsules contain the same drug formulation, that Ibuprofen and Amoxicillin are entirely different drugs with entirely different effects.

In the same way,  while PainPod devices pulse bio-electrical nerve stimulation through the skin to deliver treatment formulations,  the term doesn’t apply to  the specific bio electric formulations of the waveforms and pulses that the PainPod delivers.

That’s the PainPod difference.

What is EMS

Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), also known as neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) or electromyostimulation describes the use of  electric impulses to stimulate  muscles to contract.

This is the process by which the PainPod BioTechnology combines frequency treatment formulations with a range of  advanced waveforms to mimic the body's natural contractions,  passing gentle bio-pulses through the body tissues and muscle groups,  stimulating  blood-flow and improving circulation, speeding the body’s natural healing or conditioning process.

PainPod Pads

I think my pads are irritating my skin. Am I doing something wrong?

Skin irritation can occur in a small number of cases. If your skin is becoming irritated by the pads, there are a few different things you can do to stop it from recurring and even lengthen the life of your pads in the process:

  • Clean any skin products or oils off the skin before applying the pads - moisturisers, oils and other products damage the gel and can lead to irritation.
  • Don't use wet wipes on the pads - the active ingredients damage the gel and can lead to irritation. Only use water, PainPod Conductor Gel or Perfect Conductor.

If your pads are old, you may simply need to order some replacements but try the above first. If you have tried the above tips, ordered replacement pads and you are still experiencing skin irritation, we recommend considering the PainPod Bio Belt or other accessories as an alternative to pads. The belt does not use gel to stick to the skin but instead is sprayed with water or Perfect Conductor and then strapped tight to hold it in place.

What is the difference between PainPod Premium Pads and PainPod Econo Pads?

PainPodPremium Pads are the latest in PainPod Biotechnology. These patented pads have a proprietary silver grid pattern that closely controls the current so PainPod treatment is even, and more comfortable.

The Econo Pads range by PainPod are effective and great value for the budget conscious.

How long do PainPod Premium Pads and PainPod Econo Pads last?

How long lasting and durable the different types of PainPod electrode pads are will depend on a number of factors. How often you use them, how you store them, where you store them, if your skin is clean when using them, as well as skin type are some factors that will affect pad life.

Pads Estimated Usage Guide

PainPod™ Premium Pads: 25-50 applications or 30-60hrs (Approximate Use Per Pair)

PainPod™ Econo Pads: 30-60 applications or 40-60hrs (Approximate Use Per Pair)

In short, the durability of the pads will depend on the adhesiveness of the gel and its adhesiveness depends on keeping the gel clean, hydrated and free from debris.

Below are some tips to help you take care of your pads:

Applying pads: Clean skin with soapy water to remove oils, lotions, dirt, makeup etc. Any debris can get trapped in the gel and compromise the integrity of the gel’s adhesive quality.

Removing & storing pads: Ensure device is turned off and always lift electrodes from the edge (NOT the leadwire). Return the pads to the storage liners or holder and put them in the original resealable bag or a ziplock bag to prevent loss of moisture. The electrodes should be stored at a temperature that would be comfortable for a human being, or somewhere between 5°C (41.0°F) and 27°C (80.6°F). with humidity at 35-50%.

Additional storage instructions specific for PainPod Premium Pads: Place onto correct “ON” side of storage liner. If placed onto “NO” side of liner, the gel will degrade when removed.

Hydrating pads: You can hydrate the Econo pads prior to storage by rubbing a drop of water onto the gel surface. PainPod™Premium Pads ARE NOT to be used with conductive spray however conductive spray is fine for use and recommended  with Econo PainPod pads.

DO NOT: Do not store pads in a freezer/refrigerator, leave in extreme heat, submerge in water, or leave outside of the package. Do not use soap, alcohol, wet wipes, submerge in water, or scrub with abrasive material on your pads.

Are the electrode pads disposable?

Yes. When electrode pads show wear and tear, or are no longer comfortable, it is likely time to replace them with a new set.

Can electrode pads be used by more than one person?

Governing agencies require them to be labeled for single patient use for hygiene reasons. PainPod pads are intended for single patient use only. By sharing pads, you are subjected to cross contamination. All electrode pads are disposable and should be replaced with fresh pads if compromised.

PainPod pads are designed for reuse so long as the care instructions are followed and pads are discarded when they show damage or are uncomfortable. Each use will slowly diminish the adhesive quality. The pads become contaminated by the skin. The pH of the pad gel is controlled at a level to prevent the spontaneous growth of molds. However, during use in a spore rich environment it is possible to overwhelm this mold growth control feature of the gel. Discard pads when necessary.

Is the pad’s gel hypoallergenic?

According to the FDA, there are no Federal standards that govern the use of the term hypoallergenic. Hypoallergenic is loosely defined as “less likely to cause an allergic reaction than other comparable goods.” Since there is no scientific formula to measure or test this, our pads have not been labeled as hypoallergenic. We would recommend putting forward an enquiry with the company in question if you come across pads labeled hypoallergenic elsewhere.

Do your pads contain latex?

All of our PainPod pads are latex free. We do not use latex of any kind in the manufacturing process or in the packaging of PainPod pads.
