Emily Collits

Ranch Broc Rider

Emily is a Women’s Ranch Bronc Rider and has recently set off for the States to commence her Summer Competition Run for the next few months. Emily will be competing in a range of competitions across South and North Dakota, Colorado, Wyoming and Oklahoma.

Emily originally grew up in Brisbane and has since travelled to America to compete multiple times where she has been named a x2 World Finals Qualifier and won the 2023 USA Finals Rodeo.

Tell us about your background and story to where you are today?

I am originally a city girl, where I grew up in the Brisbane suburbs. I started my riding career as a teenager where I rode English for many years. In 2018 I decided to pack up my life and move to Canada where I was first introduced to the western side of things. 2020 was the first time I climbed into the chutes at an Emerald QLD bronc school and haven’t looked back since. After that I have been to compete in America twice, been a x2 World Finals Qualifier and won the 2023 USA Finals Rodeo which has got to be one of my favourite moments.

What’s your favourite thing about ranch bronc riding?

My favourite part of bronc riding is how quiet the world goes for those 8 seconds. There can be 20,000 people in the stands and while you’re riding the world just stops.

What have been your biggest accomplishments since you started ranch bronc riding?

Winning the US Finals in 2023 as well as qualifying to represent Australia at the World Finals have to be my biggest accomplishments.

What is your best career highlight from being a ranch bronc rider?

I won my first Buckle alongside my travel partner x2 World Champion Allysa Speirings and the men’s World Champion Justin Quint. It was pretty special to achieve that alongside two of the best riders out.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years with your ranch bronc riding?

I plan on continuing to compete and teach into the future. It is a sport with a lot of unknowns when it comes to injuries etc I hope that with the help of Pain Pod I can manage anything that comes up along my journey and continue competing to the best of my ability.

Have you experienced any setbacks since you started ranch bronc riding?

In late 2022 after coming back from the states I broke my right hip socket after falling from a colt. That saw me out of the saddle for nearly 6 months which was devastating to me. After a lot of rehab, I was able to compete in the 2023 season but due to the weakening of my femur I did unfortunately come away with some stress fractures which sat me out for the remainder of the 2023/24 Australian season. Injuries are part of the game and I have been lucky enough to come back stronger after each set back.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Don’t be afraid to fail, mistakes are a part of learning. Grow from each one.

How did you enter the professional sport world?

It was all a bit of a fluke really. I just happened to be travelling to the states for a friend’s wedding when I was invited to join the women on the Women’s Ranch Bronc Championships Tour. The rest is history.

What are the keys to success for anyone looking to replicate a similar pathway?

Just give it a go. Initially I started riding saddle bronc with the men and going to saddle bronc schools before I found the women’s ranch bronc pathway. We try our best to have a few schools a year but it is such a new thing to Aus so we are still finding our feet.

How do you successfully manage your life and training balance?

Honestly, I don’t. It’s something I personally really struggle with balancing life, work, rodeo, family and whatever else life throws my way always seems to feel like a bit of a chaotic juggle

What made you interested in PainPod?

After my injuries in I really relied on pain killers to get me through day-to-day life. I was really searching for another way to manage my pain and recovery without having to rely on painkillers. I get instant relief from all kinds of pain without turning to medication or having to go fork out a bunch of money at the physio or chiro.
