Easing Foot Pain With TENS
Your feet carry you from A to B every single day, but like most people you probably don’t think much about them until they start hurting. Ask anyone with chronic foot pain, however, and they’ll tell you it’s debilitating as well as inconvenient. While many common foot conditions only require rest, wearing comfortable shoes, and use of pain medications, using a TENS machine is a drug-free way to get you back on your feet more quickly, while helping to manage pain, stiffness, and even improve circulation.
Feet are complex structures comprising bones, muscles, tendons and tissues, and for a number of reasons they can become injured or inflamed resulting in mild-to-severe pain. Heel pain, for example, can occur because of plantar fasciitis, an overuse injury which irritates the plantar fascia, a tough band of tissue connecting the heel bone to the toes. Another common cause of heel pain is abnormal growths of bone on the bottom of your heel called spurs, caused by wearing the wrong shoes, an abnormal walking style, and running, even on a treadmill.
The ball of the foot can also become painful from wearing ill-fitting shoes, running, or jumping, or from a stone bruise after stepping on a hard object. Plantar fasciitis can also affect the arch of the foot, while fallen arches, or flat feet, happen when the arches of the feet flatten out when standing or walking resulting in foot pain. Common problems affecting toes include gout, a form of arthritis, and bunions, which is a progressive problem producing a characteristic bump on the big toe joint which becomes increasingly prominent and painful. And finally, foot pain can occur because of peripheral neuropathy, which is damage to the peripheral nerve commonly caused by injury, infection, and medical conditions such as diabetes.
The PainPod BodySystems Foot Wrap is an accessory for PainPod and Hidow machines specifically for feet, ankles and shins. It works by sending gentle electrical pulses through the affected area, which block pain signals that would otherwise be sent to the brain, while encouraging your body to produce endorphins to reduce pain naturally. The Foot Wrap fits all sizes of feet, and it comes with large silicon conductive pads to effectively treat larger areas. It’s also portable - you can treat your feet anywhere - and if they’re simply tired or achy from being on them all day, the wrap can provide a soothing massage.
